The Journey So Far

I have come a long way in this my few days of soujourn here. I have come through thick and thin. Some people wondered how I am able to make it till now. Some thought I would be consumed by the perils that came my way. None of the people that knew my humble beginning gave me a chance. It was, more-or-less, a case of "can anything good come out of Nazareth?"

They were right!

I did not have the wherewithal to make any impact in life. I was not born with a golden, not even a silver spoon in my mouth. I had a very simple and humble beginning.

My father was a very wealthy man. He had estates in various parts of the country, especially in Enugu and Port-harcourt. He had just finished building a house in Ikwere, Rivers State before the Nigerian Civil war. You know the rest of the story. The war claimed it all. It was confisticated and labelled 'abandoned property'.

Square One!

You are right. He started from square one. But no one is to blame. I mean, you do not determine when a cataclysmic event of any proportion will occur. He took it in good faith. It was during the cause of his recovery from the massive loses that I was given to him of God.

I was born in Aku. Aku is in Igbo-Etiti local government area of Enugu state. When I was about five, I moved to the city with my parents to start formal education. Now, if are Nigerian, and I guess people from other nationalities will have similar or varied forms of what I want to talk about, you will understand that there are different dialects of the same language. Now, coming from the 'village', I spoke differently from other kids and could not interact freely as I would.

When I finally got into school, I was helped alot by my first primary school teacher, 'Mrs. Okagbue'. She made me to feel belonged in my own class. From then on things worked out well. However, when I was in primary three, I discovered that I was not doing so well in mathematics, too bad. My father was an Electrical Engineer and I always wanted to be like him. But I cannot be an engineer if I keep failing Maths.

Winds beneath my wings.

Mr. Cletus Ugbo who happen to be living in the same apartment with us at the time in question took unusual interest in me. He organised tutorial classes for kids my age just to 'brush me up'. He could not continue the class for long due to busy schedules but he succeded in reaching a 'secret agreement' with my father to wake me up every 4:00am to do some drillings in 'LaCombe' - the Mathematics text we used at that time.

I did not enjoy that at all. I never said thank you to him because I never liked what he did.

The rest is history. I am now an Electrical and Electronic Engineer that knows his onions. I just want to use this great opportunity to say one big thank you to 'one mighty wind beneath my wings' Mr. Cletus Ugbo.

4:00AM!

Till today, James Ugwuogo still wakes up at 4:00am or about that time. This started since over a decade and a half ago.

Au Canada!

Je dois vous dire!

I had always dreamt of travelling abroad but I never thought about coming to canada. I wanted to go to the United Kingdom. Maybe because they colonized Nigeria. But, as God will have it, I got an open door to travel to canada.

JUST LIKE THAT?

I called my pastor one day on my visit to Enugu from Port-Harcout. I had gone to Enugu to Execute a job on behalf of my company based in Port-Harcourt on that fateful day. Now, instead of the usual exchange of pleasantries, I was asked by my pastor, Apostle Aloy C. Diugwu, to come over to his house. He told me instantly on the phone that there is an open door for me to travel abroad. He is such 'a mighty wind beneath my wings.' As you can see today, I am living in Toronto Canada. A very big thank you sir.

Ever travelled by Aeroplane?

Are you kidding me? I lost my father the same year I entered the secondary school and my 'Big brother' - Mr. Dominic Ugwuogo took the responsibility of paying my tuition through the secondary school. He is such 'a powerful wind beneath my wings.' Thanks a million times brother. I never enjoyed the luxury of air travel.

When I was done with my undergraduate studies, (Don't ask me how, God took over. Ask my friends Udu Ogah, Collins Oputa, St. Chijioke and Spako. They might have a way of saying it better.) I kept watering my dreams of travelling abroad. I kept telling myself that 'the me I see, is the me I'll become', I kept saying to myself, 'confession brings possession'. I kept saying what I want to be.

The seed!

My father had said much earlier in my younger years that he was going to train me 'even to the moon'. He made me to know how proud he was of me and told me that he "knows I will not join bad groups (or gangs)". This was the seeding point. All these kept coming back to my mind and I kept believing tthat one day I was going to the moon to do my studies. Here I am today. I have come to the conclusion that " THERE IS NO MOUNTAIN ANYWHERE" and that " EVERY MAN'S MOUNTAIN IS HIS IGNORANCE."

THE TRIP!

I have purposefully refused to mention the name of one man here. The moment we encounter his name, know that this introduction is about to wind up.

Among the WINDS BENEATH MY WINGS he is about the most influential. He is my brother and my friend. He is both a master and a mentor to me. He is such an inspiration. He is both simple and enigmatic. Words cannot express how much I am indebted to him. He is no other than Engr. Calistus Ohadero Mba. He is an 'Oke Azu ji Ulo' - the mighty pillar that holds the building together. He believes in me just like my father did. He knows that "IF THE FOUNDATION OF ANY INFRASTRUCTURE WILL STAND", that, "THE SUPERSTRUCTURES MUST SURELY SUPERSEDE." He is such an "enormous mighty wind beneath my wings."

He is the one who single handedly sponsored my tried to this 'Holy land'. The land of the Moon.

Don't judge me yet, was stealing time from my study time to put this up....gotta go catch-up on some reading now !!!

Heca World

HECA WORLD AND HECANET WIRELESS:

The birth of Heca world.

I started in the field of electronics at a very tender age. I would try to electrify any dark corner of the house especially when travelled to the village. When my father saw the talents and giftings, he decided to give me maximum support.

During my days in the secondry school, I picked special interest in electronics and by the time I was doing my second year, I was able to construct my first wireless microphone. Then I did an AM radio reciever, then a headphone, Then a condenser microphone and so on. By the time I was in my fourth year, I started designing Amplifiers.

I wanted a name for my products, so I tried JIMLIFIER. I was just a kid then. I chose JIM as the prefix because my name and my father's name are both JAMES. Then LIFIER because my key product was amplifier.

This sounded cute at the time but as time went by, I wanted something unique. I knew I was going to be doing more than just amplifiers and radio circuits. I wanted something that will reflect all I will ever do, or at least, all I could envisage I was going to do.

HECA

Heca is an abbreviation of two nick names. My friends called me 'His Excellency.' They did this because, while at the secondary school I was the hostel captain of Jackson house - The most prominent hostel in Union Secondary School, Awkunanaw Enugu at the time we were there (1989 -1994). I always won awards both for the school and the hostel. The school during inter-school quizes and debates, the Hostel during internal inspection of neatness and good behavior. I was also the senior hostel master's favorite. This was how I got the name 'His Excellency'.

Now, I am a born-again christian and I often affirmed that I am an ambassador of christ. For this reason, one of my elder brother's (Mr. Christopher Ugwuogo) friends, Late Mr. Sunday Aruma, nicknamed me 'Ambassador.'

So, when the chips were down and I was searching for a name for my Would be company and products, I put these two nick names together. From His Excellency I got H.E and from Christ's Ambassador I got C.A . When you put these two together you'll get HECA.

Now, HECA stands for HIS EXCELLENCY ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONICS ENGINEERING CONSTRUCTION COMPANY AND ASSOCIATES.

Associates of the company includes: JWC systems, U+JWC Intergrated Systems, Colyke associates, Kennops computers, Walt-consult, Emspak086 mobile systems,Itsumaful solar systems and controls, Hecanet wireless and Heca technologies world wide. We are still growing.

A Leader

A leader is one who goes out first and comes in last. The tripod of truth, justice and fairness remains his sling like the biblical David. Like Jesus faced with an adulteress, he knows temperance. A crusader he is, simple yet enigmatic. Like Abraham Lincoln, he reveres the supremacy of the law, like Indira Ghandi, he goes out to the country-side to feel the aspirations and needs of his people, like julius Nyerere, see leadership not as a means of self enrichment but as a means of enriching all. The list is endless but the message is the same.

A leader thinks in a triet, was is, what was and what ought to be and tries to find the bridge between the gorge of what is and what ought to be. He is such a noble creed to be imitated by his followers. A leader tries to translate all the dreams that wet his aspirations into reality.

I am still working this.............
